There’s no doubt that ginger is a champion when it comes to adding a punch to food – but it can also get your skin glowing too! This exotic root is rich in antioxidants and if consumed regularly can help to improve your skin from the inside out. But did you know that you can also use ginger on your skin too?

Ginger has a reputation as a healer and when it comes to healing scars, improving the texture of skin and making your hair and scalp healthier than ever, it could be your new beauty secret weapon. With forty antioxidants in this boring looking root, it could prevent free radical damage and improve skin elasticity, leaving you looking younger and firmer.

Ginger could help to prevent spots

One of ginger’s greatest properties is the fact that it’s an effective antiseptic. This means that ginger makes a fabulous cleanser as it clears bacteria from the skin which can cause spots and blemishes. If you get a spot, help to get rid of it fast by mixing a cup of fresh ginger juice with a tablespoon of runny honey. Dab on with a cotton pad and leave for half an hour before rinsing off.

Once a week treat your skin to a ginger face mask. Just mix a tablespoon of ginger juice with two tablespoons of rosewater and one tablespoon of honey. Mix until thoroughly combined and apply for twenty minutes before rinsing. Or if you only have powdered ginger mix equal amounts of lemon juice, honey and ground ginger and leave the resulting mask on for thirty minutes before washing off.

Can ginger reduce cellulite?

Ginger is known for its detoxifying and invigorating qualities which is why it can really make a difference to the appearance of cellulite. It can boost circulation when made into a scrub which is not only easy and natural to make but also smells amazing! Simply mix three tablespoons of grated fresh ginger, half a cup of demerara sugar, a quarter cup of olive oil, and the zest of one lemon. Rub it vigorously into cellulite and the wider area for energized, smooth skin.

Could ginger help to beat bloat?

Celebs love Epsom salts baths to help them get red carpet ready and bloat free but add ginger to the mix and you have a detoxing bath which will boost circulation for hours after you get out. Make you own ginger bath by mixing half a cup of Epsom salt and two teaspoons of ground ginger. This is also great if you have sore muscles from exercising!

Can you use ginger as a hair treatment?

When it comes to hair health, ginger is a double threat! It not only increases circulation to your scalp, thus stimulating hair growth, but its antiseptic properties can help clear up scalp conditions like dandruff. Just combine two tablespoons of grated fresh ginger with three tablespoons olive oil and massage into your scalp a couple times a week to both grow your hair and keep your scalp in fantastic condition.
