9 Home Remedies to Try for Preventing Ageing Skin
There’s an array of beauty products on the market to ensure you don’t look old before your time, but you can also reduce wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin with some amazing DIY remedies too.
There is no denying that reducing and preventing wrinkles can be costly, so it’s comforting to know there are some natural home remedies you can whip up to keep ageing skin at bay.
ageing is a fact of life and you can’t stop it from happening. As you get older your skin loses its collagen - the protein which keeps skin elastic and stops it from sagging - and the dermal layer becomes thin, making you susceptible to fine lines and sagging. So how do you prevent wrinkles?
Aside from using all natural products like Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil and Lumity Day and Night Supplements, you can also prevent wrinkles by using what you likely already have in your kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
1.Oils
Oils are great for your skin whether your complexion is dry or oily! Olive oil is particularly good to keep in your cupboards for cooking and for fighting wrinkles.
It’s loaded with antioxidants, vitamins A and E, and will help combat skin damaging free radicals.
Olive oil is also a great moisturiser so gently massage in a tablespoon of it onto your face twice a day for smooth, supple, wrinkle reduced skin.
2. Tomatoes
Don’t just think about what you put on your skin, think about how you’re nourishing it from the inside out. Eating a healthy balanced diet, loaded with fruits and vegetables will do wonders for your body but there’s also a fabulous wrinkle fighting food which is great to eat AND to apply to your skin.
Tomatoes are incredibly high in antioxidants, most notably lycopene which has natural sunscreen properties and helps fight the damage caused by free radicals.
Try combining a tablespoon of tomato paste with lemon juice for a simple face wash.
3. Banana face mask
Mash up a banana with a little plain yoghurt and a teaspoon of orange juice for a creamy face mask. Bananas contain a plethora of goodness including vitamin E which fights the damage caused by free radicals and boosts the skin’s ability to protect itself against UV damage. Bananas also contain potassium which acts as a moisturiser and they have plenty of vitamin A to help fade sunspots and vitamin B helps improve dry skin too.
4. Egg white face mask
Egg whites are full of protein which is great for tissue repair and growth. Egg whites also contain potassium which helps keep moisture in the skin cells and stops skin from drying out and wrinkles forming.
They will assist in tightening and toning the skin as well. You can make an all-natural face mask using egg whites by mixing one egg’s worth with half a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of lemon juice too.
5. Silk pillowcase
Sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce friction, which can cause wrinkles. Not only with the silk feel smooth and cool beneath your skin, but silk also doesn’t absorb much moisture from your skin. The more hydrated your skin, the less wrinkles.
6. Lemon juice and honey face mask
You need to be consistent with your beauty regime to keep wrinkles at bay, but this lemon juice and honey face mask will give you instantly tighter skin. Honey helps skin retain its moisture and elasticity and lemon boost collagen production.
Mix some honey with lemon juice and apply a thin layer to your face. Leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off and you skin will look and smell great.
7. Cucumber yoghurt face mask
A cucumber, yoghurt face mask which has been placed in the fridge is so refreshing and cooling. It doesn’t just feel good either, the combo is fantastic for your face. Whiz up half a cucumber and add it to half a cup of Greek yoghurt and some mint leaves too. Apply it to your skin in for an easy face mask which will help prevent premature ageing. The lengthy list of goodness in a cucumber, including - but not limited to - vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6 - will tighten, tone and hydrate skin as well assisting in safeguarding it against free radicals.
8. Facial massage
When you apply your oil try gently massaging it in. A DIY facial massage will plump up and rejuvenate your skin. It will help your facial muscles relax and reduce tension which can cause frowning and wrinkles.
9. Aloe vera
Sunburn is no joke when it comes to your health or your skin care and while the best way to protect yourself is with sunscreen and covering up your skin, if you do sunbathe or get too much sun aloe vera is great at assisting the healing process because of its anti-inflammatory properties. But you don’t have to buy it in a bottle because an inexpensive way to have it at your fingertips is to buy an aloe vera plant. You can directly apply the gel inside the leaves to your skin and the leaves will even regrow after they’ve been cut off.
