What is hormonal balance?

Hormonal balance refers to the optimal levels and interactions of hormones within the body to support normal physiological functions and maintain overall health. Hormones are chemical messengers produced by various glands in the endocrine system, and they play a crucial role in regulating numerous bodily processes. These processes include metabolism, growth and development, immune function, mood, reproductive cycles, and more.

When the levels of hormones are within a normal and healthy range, the body functions efficiently. However, imbalances in hormone levels—either excess or deficiency—can lead to various health issues and disrupt the body's equilibrium.

Key aspects of hormonal balance include:

  1. Homeostasis: Hormones work to maintain homeostasis, which is the body's internal balance. This involves keeping certain physiological parameters, such as temperature and blood sugar levels, within a narrow range.

  2. Feedback Loops: Hormonal systems often operate through feedback loops. When hormone levels deviate from the normal range, the body triggers mechanisms to bring them back into balance.

  3. Timing and Rhythms: Hormones are often released in specific patterns, with fluctuations occurring throughout the day or in sync with the menstrual cycle. Maintaining these timing and rhythmic patterns is essential for proper functioning.

Common hormonal systems in the body include the thyroid hormones, insulin, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and others. Imbalances in these hormones can lead to conditions such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, adrenal disorders, and reproductive health issues.

Factors that can contribute to hormonal imbalances include stress, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, certain medical conditions, medications, and age-related changes. Addressing these factors through lifestyle modifications, proper nutrition, regular exercise, and, in some cases, medical interventions can help support hormonal balance.

It's important to note that hormonal balance is a dynamic and individualized state, and what is considered balanced for one person may differ from another. Hormonal fluctuations are a natural part of life, such as those that occur during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. If someone suspects a hormonal imbalance or experiences persistent symptoms, consulting with a healthcare professional is advisable for proper evaluation and guidance.

Morning & Night

Lumity Morning & Night’s innovative formula contains a  blend of 29  nutrients including essential Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids, Adaptogens and Omega 3s. In combination, these key nutrients are designed to  support overall wellbeing. The following nutrients are particularly beneficial if you are experiencing difficulties with hormonal balance:

Vitamin B6 is an essential B vitamin, that contributes to the healthy production of oestrogen & progesterone. In its active form, Vitamin B6 also supports neurotransmitter production (serotonin & melatonin), contributing to an improved mood & sleep, which helps to balance hormones.

Sage is a herb rich in B vitamins & nutrients, containing natural phytoestrogens derived from plants, these phytoestrogens have been found extremely beneficial in harmonising oestrogen balance, whilst alleviating symptoms caused by disrupted hormones, such as hot flushes & stress.

Selenium is crucial in supporting hormonal balance. An essential component of various enzymes and proteins, called selenoproteins, which play a critical role in thyroid hormone metabolism & boosting antioxidant activity in the body.

Iodine’ is most important role is supporting healthy thyroid function, by helping regulate the production of thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) & triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones are critical in controlling the body’s metabolism and, in turn, help to balance other hormones.

Magnesium is often referred to as a ‘miracle mineral’ due to its ability to correct hormone imbalances by reducing the release of the stress hormone (cortisol). Excess cortisol can cause anxiety and elevated stress levels as the hormonal and nervous systems respond to excess levels of cortisol. When the body has enough Magnesium, the nervous system is relaxed, meaning less cortisol is produced. Magnesium is often used to calm the nervous system and contributes to a better quality of sleep.

Zinc is an essential mineral for the healthy regulation of cortisol, oestrogen & progesterone. Zinc is also an antioxidant, helping to reduce inflammation and manage symptoms of hypothyroidism. Zinc is also an important nutrient, nourishing the ovarian follicles, therefore, promoting ovulation & supporting fertility.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a powerful antioxidant & anti-inflammatory micronutrient, proven to assist in balancing progesterone & oestrogen, and supporting overall reproductive health.  Studies have confirmed that, due to its fat-soluble nature, the bioavailability of Coenzyme Q10 is greatly increased by its suspension in oil. Our Morning & Night supplement contains Coenzyme Q10, and together with the blend of key nutrients, our formulations are suspended in Flaxseed Oil (a great source of Omega 3’s) to ensure the bioavailability of the supplement is the best in the market.

These key nutrients can all be found in our complex Morning & Night formula. With a synergistic effect, these ingredients help to support and re-balance hormone levels, whilst simultaneously helping to alleviate some of the lesser-known symptoms of hormonal imbalance such as muscle cramps, often associated with fluctuating hormones.

In an  independent, placebo controlled, double blind clinical trial, 84% of participants noticed improved emotional balance after taking Morning & Night for 12 weeks.

84% reported that they had more energy, better sleep and fewer instances of waking up throughout the night
