Simple (and inexpensive!) DIY beauty treatments you can do at home
Here’s how you can concoct skin and hair magic from the contents of your kitchen cupboards.
The Kate Moss trick for puffy eyes
Kate swears there’s nothing better to wake you and your skin up than submerging your face in a sink filled with ice and cucumber.
“It instantly tightens everything making you feel and look instantly awake” she insists.
Blake Lively’s brilliant shiny hair hack
Blake has a slimy approach to keep her hair well hydrated.
“My mum taught me this really great beauty tip. She used to put oil or mayonnaise on the bottom half of her hair before she would shower. That way, when she would shampoo, the soap wouldn’t strip the bottom of the hair and dry it out, making it brittle.’
Erin Heatherton’s instant glowy skin trick
The model isn’t afraid to open up her fridge – or anyone else’s – and whip up a hydrating, homemade face mask.
“One time I was at a friend’s house and my skin felt really dry, and they had honey in their cupboard, so I took the honey and some Greek yogurt and put it on my face.”
Cate Blanchett’s homemade face scrub
Cate gives her complexion a boost with a DIY tip given to her by a friend.
“Olive and macadamia oils are really good for your complexion. Put one of them on in the shower and they make your skin zing. I incorporate them into a homemade scrub with grapefruit juice and sea salt — a beauty trick taught to me by a friend of mine.”
Scarlett Johansson’s easy pimple blasting trick
The actress’ homemade skin tip sounds sour, but she swears by it.
“If my skin is dull or I have red spots before a big event, I sweep raw lemon over it, to make it brighter. It stings a bit, but it’s not at all harming. It’s my favourite thing.”
Martha Hunt’s super simple hair masque
Martha’s model career plays havoc with her hair and so to protect it she reached for the eggs.
“I like to make a homemade egg white and rosemary oil hair mask,” she says. “Because my hair gets colour-damaged and so distressed from working with heat. The protein mask helps rebuild and strengthen my hair.”
Lindsay Ellingson’s almost free lip scrub
Lindsay’s perfect pout isn’t down to lip fillers! The model makes a citrus scrub to keep her lips looking and feeling lovely.
“This sugar lime lip scrub will bring back your soft, supple lips and prep them for any lipstick application. The sugar and lime act as the exfoliators while the coconut oil and honey deeply hydrate and cleanse your lips. You can also keep it very simple and just mix sugar and oil.”
Miranda Kerr’s apple cider vinegar hair hack
Miranda doesn’t let a bit of smelliness get in the way of her luscious locks.
“Apple cider vinegar for shininess,” the Australian model says. “You put on a little bit in the shower as a rinse, and then wash it out. It stinks a little, but then you use conditioner and the smell goes away.”
